Best Lasik Surgeon

December 17, 2007

Laser refractive surgery is speedily becoming the most technologically advanced and popular method available today to exact refractive errors, primarily because it provides near-total care and predictability. However, there are still a relatively small number of ophthalmologists in the US who are trained in laser refractive surgery and in the calibration and operation of the laser.

The excimer laser, which is used in this kind of surgery, received FDA approval in 1995 for correcting mild to moderate nearsightedness. At present, the excimer laser is accepted for use in actions called photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and laser in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK).
Having performed over 55,000 laser vision corrections, Lasik eye surgery procedures, Dr. Selkin ranks as one of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in the United States. Couple it with low Lasik eye surgery cost and you have a unbelievable combination!

Dr. Selkin, known for Nashville Lasik vision correction, is board certified and was accepted to the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at Harvard University/Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary where he trained for one year.

Eye Care!

December 6, 2007

Nearsighted:In nearsightedness, light comes into the eye and is focused in front of the retina. Nearsighted patients typically cannot see well at a distance, but can see well up close. To treat nearsightedness, the laser flattens the central part of the cornea. This allows light to be focused directly on the retina. The lasers at Selkin Eye Center provide the most advanced technology to treat low or high degrees of nearsightedness. In any degree, it is vital to be sure that the patient has an adequate corneal thickness, which we determine with our advanced diagnostic equipment. We use our orbscan II device to determine the entire thickness across your cornea. Dr. Selkin also has Ultrasound packymetry devices for determining corneal thickness. Farsightedness:
In farsighted patients, light rays enter the eye and are focused behind the retina. This occurs because the cornea is too flat or the eye is not long enough. Patients who are farsighted have a lot of difficulty seeing up close, and can have difficulty with distance vision as well. Many patients who are farsighted notice that they didn’t need glasses until they reach age 40, and near that age they need bifocals for distance and reading. Lasik can treat farsightedness by gently flattening the periphery of the cornea to allow the central part of the cornea to become steeper and focus light on the retina. Treating farsightedness improves the distance vision and near vision, though reading glass may be necessary for up close work. For those farsighted patients who want to rid themselves of reading glasses, ask our doctors about monovision laser vision correction.

Astigmatism:
Many patients who are nearsighted or farsighted also have some degree of astigmatism. Astigmatism is a condition in which the cornea has different curvatures (such as a steeper vertical cornea than horizontal). This causes light rays that come into the eye to not be focused on the retina, which causes blurry, distorted vision for any distance.

Good Eye Surgeon for Lasik

November 2, 2007

Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis, LASIK is the most popular eye surgery today. In order to get your Lasik eye surgery, you should know few things first.

  1. Is it Risk free for you to have Lasik
  2. Is your surgeon competent to do Lasik

What you should know about your Surgeon is:  Education: Look for a surgeon who has specialized in refractive eye surgery. Though all opthalmologists are considered as eye specialists, all of them aren’t qualified to carry out refractive surgery. Experience: Find out about the surgeon’s experience. Look into the surgeon’s work history and find out how many patients he has treated successfully. Equipment and Procedure: There are different types of procedures as well as equipment used for LASIK. It will be a good idea to find out if the surgeon you have chosen is up to date with all the latest technologies and procedures. Price: Most eye surgery clinics will be competitive on price. You need to find a surgeon whom you can afford. A good way to find an eye surgeon is to shortlist a few surgeons based on your research and then book a consultation with each. Since it is important to have a good rapport with your surgeon, your final decision should lie with a surgeon whom you are comfortable with and who will offer you the best care in terms of pre- and post-surgery. Having performed over 45,000 laser vision correction procedures, Dr. Robert Selkin ranks as one of the most experienced Lasik surgeons in the United States, and Dr. Robert Selkin is also board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Know About Dr. Robert Selkin

September 12, 2007

“I recently had Lasik surgery performed by Dr. Robert Selkin. Originally I was skeptical of the procedure and wanted to be very selective in the physician who performed it. After meeting with Dr. Selkin, I agreed to have the procedure. I now see better than I have ever seen and can now wake up in the morning and see my alarm clock. Dr. Selkin and his staff have been wonderful through this experience and are true professionals. The procedure itself isn’t really fun but the results I’ve gotten and the treatment by Dr. Selkin and his staff has been wonderful. I would recommend Dr. Selkin to anyone considering Lasik.”

Sean C

“I have worn glasses since the age of five, so the one thing I have always wanted to change about me was not my height, weight, or complexion, but my vision. I have known for years that I was a candidate for Lasik, but the $4000 cost ruled it out. Selkin gave me the affordable alternative I have been looking for. For well under half of the cost of other procedures, I not only had my vision corrected, but also cured the dry eyes associated with fibromyalgia through a simple tear duct procedure done at the same time as my Lasik. I am forever grateful to Selkin Laser Center for making all this possible for me.”
Amy G
“Having the Lasik eye surgery has been like a dream come true. When I first realized that I could read without glasses I couldn’t keep from crying. I am just so thankful for what Dr. Selkin has done for me. Everyone was so nice and supportive through it all.”

Tammy H

“My experience with the Selkin Laser Center was wonderful. The doctors and aides were all very helpful and nice. Dr. Selkin did a wonderful job; he talked me through the surgery and made me feel comfortable. I went into surgery with 20/1000 and came out with 20/20. I couldn’t be any happier.”
